"Summer Night's Dream" - Todd Reed
On July 9, 2009, during one of our weekly summer Thursday workshops, Brad and I emphasized to our students to continue shooting long after sunset. We explained that while the quantity (brightness) of the light will not be as great 40 minutes or more after sunset, the quality (color) of the light might be much better (more saturated). That evening Brad and I and our workshop students shot the sunset at the First Curve area of Ludington State Park and it was perhaps a bit more impressive than the average summer sunset. Minute by minute the color improved. This is how the scene looked 41 minutes after sunset at 10:10 p.m. We shared our tripods with our students so they could sharply capture one of the most spectacular summertime afterglows I have ever witnessed.

"Rippling" - Brad Reed
I often find myself looking to make photographs inside of a photograph. During a beautiful summer sunset afterglow on July 9, 2009, I was blown away by the incredible separation of colors on the water. I have never witnessed such distinct red, orange, and yellow streaks on the water. I used a moderate telephoto lens and zeroed in on what was truly exciting me in the scene.
