Pictures of the Month (06.2009)

"Springing to Life" - Todd Reed
One of my great momentary escapes from lifeŐs busyness is driving past the Schultz familyŐs horse ranch south of Ludington and looking to see what their horses are up to. I pass by the rolling pasture almost every day en route to and from home and I am always looking for a picture to make. Most of the time I enjoy the view but do not stop because it is obvious to me I cannot at that instant make a strong image out of the scene before me. On this May evening I recognized that the ingredients necessary for a good picture were all present. [ Purchase This Photo ]

"Sweet Water" - Brad Reed
One of my favorite professors when I was a student at Calvin College told me a story recently about his father. His father was from California and every time he came to visit his son at Calvin, he would refer to Lake Michigan as the 'sweet water'. In California, when they would try to dig wells for drinking water near the coastline of the Pacific Ocean, the water would often be undrinkable due to the salt content. If you were lucky enough to dig a well and hit 'sweet water' you were considered very fortunate. Many people today that live near the Great Lakes take them for granted and donŐt realize how valuable they really are. [ Purchase This Photo ]
