"Eye In The Sky" -Todd Reed
Brad and I love to photograph the power and beauty of the Lake Michigan shoreline. Sometimes though we need to know when to leave the land and water out of a waterfront picture. We always tell our workshop students to identify exactly what is exciting them about a scene. As I was standing on the beach at Buttersville south of Ludington during a photography workshop it struck me that the clouds before us were so spectacular they merited being the sole subject of a picture. Studying the clouds closely, I found a portion of the sky that appeared to look like a massive eye. Zooming in "twice as close again" on only that small sector of the sky resulted in me seeing in my viewfinder everything that excited me about the scene and nothing that did not. The results confirmed another one of our teaching concepts: “Clouds are your friends”. [ Purchase This Photo ]

"Water Colors" -Brad Reed
I love driving my truck up North Lake Shore Drive along Hamlin Lake and Òphoto huntingÓ as I pass by all the bayous and lakeshore. One sunny fall morning I stopped my truck to photograph two men fishing in a rowboat on the South Bayou. After making a nice photograph of the men fishing I turned to get back in my truck and noticed the brilliant fall leaves reflecting in the shallow waters near the dock on which I was standing. Sometimes the photos you think are going to be your best of the day end up not comparing to the less obvious photographs you make. [ Purchase This Photo ]
